YAGER FOR
COMMISSIONER

Stephanie Yager is a familiar face around town.  She is a life long resident of Brown County and her family traces its roots back four generations in this county.  Stephanie's great- grandfather, Dale Bessire, was a famous Brown County artist.  Her grandfather, Phil Bessire owned Bessire Orchards and was active in local politics.  Stephanie's father, Jerry Higgins, was Brown County Republican Chairman for fourteen years, served on the Nashville Town Board, and owns a small business.   Serving this community has been a family tradition.

Upon her graduation from Brown County High School, Stephanie attended Indiana University in nearby Bloomington.  There she studied in the SPEA program (a nationally recognized school of public policy).  Her studies focused on public finance and administration, an academic background which has served her well in public office.

In her first year as Brown County Treasurer, Stephanie saved the taxpayers of Brown County over one million dollars.  Her two-term tenure has been distinguished by an uncompromising dedication to efficient management and fiscal responsibility.  Her gentle demeanor, and the ease with which she relates to her constituents, has made her an extraordinarily effective public servant.

Stephanie currently serves as President of the Indiana County Treasurers Association, a statewide organization dedicated to providing quality, professional service to the citizens of Indiana.  She also serves as President of the Association of Indiana Counties (AIC), SE District. The AIC is a nonprofit organization established in 1957 for the betterment of county government in Indiana, and represents the interests of all 92 counties. Notably, Stephanie was elected to both positions by her bi-partisan peers.

Since Stephanie cannot hold the Treasurer's office for more than two consecutive terms, she has decided to run as the Republican candidate for County Commissioner, a four-year term.  If elected, she promises to apply her practical experience and demonstrated competence to the executive branch of County government.

Stephanie lives locally with her husband, Chuck.  She states that her most important role and greatest responsibility is being a mother of three sons, Kane, Cole, and Caleb.
